Rally in Rotunda at 1:00 p.m.
ARRM Day at the Capitol: March 2, 2010

Your recent contacts with legislators are making a huge, positive difference! As legislators drift back to St. Paul for pre-session meetings, they are telling us how they were touched by their grassroots meetings with ARRM members.

So what is sticking in their minds and hearts? It’s the stories you, consumers, caregivers and families are telling them. The stories are about the things you do- big and small- that have made a difference in a person’s life.

This year, our job will be will be to describing the impact of cuts on our most vulnerable citizens and you, the providers and people who enable these fellow citizens to have quality and safe lives. So we ask you to show up in big numbers at the ARRM Day at the Capitol on Tuesday, March 2nd. Please make your plans now to attend--here’s what to do:

  • Call your representative and senator and make an appointment OR contact ARRM's Field Coordinator, Sara Krogman if you'd like assistance setting up a visit (651-291-1086, ext. 8 or 800-551-2211, ext. 8). Go here and locate your district and legislator.
  • Or call 651-296-2146 or 1-800-657-3550 or TTY 651-296-9897 during regular business hours.
  • Download a PDF of the the 2010 Minnesota House of Representatives and Senate roster.
  • Brush up on how to talk to your legislator. Even though you received ARRM's Getting Started with Grassroots Advocacy toolkit last fall, it's worth redirecting you to this useful resource.

When you get to the capitol we'll have staff and volunteers stationed around the capitol and state office building to give you related materials and up-to-the minute information on legislation and what's going on that day – a key in finding your legislator if they are called into session or a committee hearing.

Rally at 1:00 p.m.

ARRM historically brings together the second largest annual rally (after K-12 education) during the session. Our big numbers and energy do make a difference and attract legislative leaders to speak at the rally. That's important in trying to get these decision makers to see and hear you and to hopefully commit their support to our cause.

The rally will start at 1:00 p.m. and will conclude around 2 p.m. Musicians from the Harry Meyering Center will perform a couple of songs, and key legislators (Sen. Lourey, Rep . Sertich, Rep. Hamilton, Rep. Thissen) and ARRM's CEO Bruce Nelson will say a few words to get folks excited about being at the capitol.

Materials at the Rally

We'll have the following materials at the rally:

  • 2010 Legislative Agenda for upper-level management: Please have your staff or families modify one of our "Tell Your Story" Word documents to leave behind with their leigslators.
  • 2007 Economic Impact information
  • Map of Capitol and House and Senate Offices
  • Tips for talking to your legislator
  • ARRM messages
  • Agenda and last minute updates and calls to action on critical issues

Please register this year

We suggest that you bring a person served by your agency -- as long as they have the proper consent from their guardian -- or the family member of a person served. Complete a hard copy form and please return to Sara Krogman at ARRM.
