Rally in Rotunda at 10:00 a.m.
ARRM Day at the Capitol: February 12th

As we've told you in recent weeks, we expect this legislative session to be especially ugly. You've been hearing about unfathomable cuts, especially to the health and human services (HHS) budget.

Our job will be will be to describing the impact of cuts on our most vulnerable citizens and you, the providers and people who enable these fellow citizens to have quality and safe lives.

So we ask you to show up in big numbers at the ARRM Day at the Capitol on Lincoln's 200th birthday -- Thursday, February 12th. Please make your plans now to attend; here’s what to do:

  • Call your representative and senator and make an appointment for that day. Go here and locate your district and legislator.
  • Or call 651-296-2146 or 1-800-657-3550 or TTY 651-296-9897 during regular business hours.
  • Download a PDF of the the 2009-10 Minnesota House of Representatives and Senate roster.

When you get to the capitol we'll have staff and volunteers stationed around the capitol and state office building to give you related materials and up-to-the minute information on legislation and what's going on that day – a key in finding your legislator if they are called into session or a committee hearing.

Rally at 10:00 a.m.

ARRM historically brings together the second largest annual rally (after K-12 education) during the session. Our big numbers and energy do make a difference and attract legislative leaders to speak at the rally. That's important in trying to get these decision makers to see and hear you and to hopefully commit their support to our cause.

The rally will start at 10:00 a.m. and will conclude around 10:45 am. The "ARRM Rabble Rousers" will perform a couple of songs, and key legislators, professional caregiver Duane Hickel, and ARRM's CEO Bruce Nelson will say a few words to get folks excited about being at the capitol.

Materials at the Rally

We'll have the following materials at the rally:

  • 2009 Legislative Agenda
  • Economic Impact Cards
  • Map of Capitol and House and Senate Offices
  • Tips for talking to your legislator and ARRM talking points for 2009
  • Updates and calls to action on critical issues

No Registration is Necessary

This year, registration is not necessary. We suggest that you bring a person served by your agency -- as long as they have the proper consent from their guardian -- or the family member of a person served.

Call Barb Brynstad at (651) 291-1086 ext. 4 if you have any comments or questions, or email her at bbrynstad@arrm.org.
