Annual Conference ARRM Cares Award

The ARRM CARES Award has been established to allow member organizations a means of recognizing Direct Support Professionals who demonstrate a commitment to quality services. ARRM supports and encourages our members to recognize their employees' compassion and service through this award process.

Who is eligible for nomination?
Direct Support Professionals whose job responsibilities include direct care/service as 75% or more of total job responsibilities and whose organizations are ARRM members.

Who may nominate?
Direct Support Professionals and their Supervisors may nominate up to 2% of the Direct Support Professionals who work for their agency. Small organizations with less than ten Direct Support Professionals may nominate one individual. All nominations must have agency supervisory approval. One nominee per form; no group nominations. Nominator(s) must be a person, not a Board, etc.

What are the awards criteria?
Nominees must be exemplary DSP's within their organization and must demonstrate ARRM's standards of professional integrity, interdependent work, and utilization and creation of innovative, proactive approaches while maintaining healthy boundaries. Stories that demonstrate these standards should be presented in the nomination:

  • Professional Integrity: Maintaining high standards to benefit consumers, co-workers, and the organization and supporting individuals while maintaining healthy boundaries;
  • Networking Supports: advocating to connect consumers with natural support systems;
  • Creating Innovative, Proactive Approaches to Services: Personalizing Services, demonstrating an ability to develop and implement new approaches and sharing successful results.

How are winners selected?
Completed nominations are due to the ARRM office in January each year. Nominations postmarked or received via the website after the specified date will not be considered for the award. All nominees will be recognized at the conference. Additionally, several outstanding nominees will be chosen by the Selection Committee to receive the ARRM CARES Award.

Decisions are based on the criteria noted on the nomination form. We encourage each organization to develop a system for internally selecting and nominating exemplary staff. Each agency is limited to 2% of their Direct Support Professionals. All nominations must be typed and must conform to a 500 word limit.

Additional pages will be removed from the nomination prior to review. All nominations are printed for public review and are subject to editing by the Selection Committee. Please include many examples of professional behavior that reflects your staff's ability to support the individual's goals, dreams and desires.

The ARRM Cares nomination form and criteria are mailed to each organizational member CEO in November. The CEO is responsible for passing the information to the appropriate people in their organization.

The 2008 ARRM Cares winners have been selected, and we are no longer accepting nominations for this year's ARRM Cares Awards.
