Federal Compliance Requirements for Fraud, Waste, & Abuse; and the National Provider Identifier (NPI)

December 12th is the date for the Federal Compliance Requirements for Fraud, Waste, & Abuse; and the National Provider Identifier (NPI) training. Attorney Sam Orbovich, Orbovich & Gartner Chartered, will walk Members through the federal compliance requirements that are scheduled to go into effect January 1, 2007.

These requirements pertain to only those providers who …receive or make annual payments under the State plan of at least $5,000,000… This requirement is part of the Deficit Reduction Act's new Medicaid Integrity Program, developed to increase the government's capacity to prevent, detect, and address fraud and abuse in the Medicaid program.

DHS' Training Projects Coordinator, Jessica Bierbrauer, will train Members on the National Provider Identifier (NPI). The NPI is the standard unique health identifier for health care that providers are to use in filing and processing health-care claims and other transactions. This identifier is mandated by the Federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. Learn how the NPI will change the way you submit claims to Minnesota Health Care Programs (MHCP).

This 1/2 day workshop is being held at the Dakota Lodge at Thompson Lake Park in West St. Paul.  You can register here. The deadline for registration is December 5th and we are getting close to capacity so if you plan to spend your afternoon with us, get your registration completed. Thanks!
