CAN DO Initiative

Advocacy Links and Resources

Advocacy

This section of the ARRM website contains information about our Grassroots Advocacy campaign and the CAN DO initiative.

The ARRM Public Affairs and Public Relations Committees are seeking your help to bolster our grassroots lobbying efforts during the 2008 legislative session. We are rolling out two new campaigns to make sure legislators get to know you and have positive feelings about the work you do, and we ask that you consider participating in one or both of these campaigns.

Invite Your Legislator To Your Site

This campaign is designed to encourage more legislators to visit group homes later this fall. Meeting the people you support and your DSPs - and getting a sense of what you do - is the single most important kind of "lobbying" you can do.

Visit Your Legislator At The Capitol

In addition to our annual "Day At The Capitol" event in March, ARRM hopes to have at least one member visiting a legislator every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during the 2008 legislative session. For those agencies who participate, we will offer internet-based training on working with elected officials. Moreover, we will provide you with tips and talking points to use during capitol visits. We ask that you bring a person served or family member of a person served with you to these visits, and give us feedback afterwards on how the visit went.

Please contact ARRM's PR Director, Barb Brynstad, if you would like to participate in the capitol visits, or if you have questions about either campaign (phone: 651-291-1086 ext. 4 or bbrynstad@arrm.org).
